Daphne Andrews
Daphne Andrews is a legend; an original and one of the great builders of soccer on PEI. Fifty years ago when youth soccer was starting in Charlottetown and the surrounding area - she was part of it. It was a male dominated sporting world and only young boys played soccer. Respectfully, Daphne was the original ‘Soccer Mamma’.
She became involve because of the love she had for her children, and later her grandchildren. As a soccer mamma, she treated all players equally with kindness and caring.
When she started the Winsloe Club with her group of volunteers it meant spending almost every evening at the field. She was the trouble shooter, lining fields, putting up mesh, corner flags, pump up the balls etc. Daphne put together a wonderful network of Winsloe Soccer mammas and they did amazing work.
She did not do this for days, months or years but decades - the seventies, eighties, nineties and two thousands - forty years.
Some other accomplishments include playing in the first senior women’s league; starting mini soccer called ‘wee lads and lasses’; organizing youth and senior team tours to Europe; managing the 1993 Canada games Boys Team.
Daphne was the first woman to be appointed to the Executive in 1992 - now called the PEI Soccer Association Board - and served for twenty years.
She started as a Senior Women’s Director and later became Secretary-Registrar.
Daphne had integrity, honesty; was hardworking and passionate and treated everyone with respect and kindness.
Daphne would have accepted this honor with great humility.

Bill McKinnon
Bill was as a teacher by trade and was funny, caring and honest and he would have your back and he would go above and beyond for those students that needed him. He had the respect from all his students.
In his community of Montague, he was very involved and one of those volunteers that the associations love. He was involved with the rink, the pool and of course Eastern Eagles Soccer Club and he gave 110% with each project.
Bill Mackinnon was president of the Eastern Eagles Soccer Club in 2004 and 2005.
And although he passed on the reigns in 2006, Bill was acting as Past President in 2006 and always continued to be a trusted advisor to those that have ran the club.
Bill found additional ways to stay involved in the game. Between 2011 and 2018 he became a Provincial Representative that travelled with soccer teams to national and regional championships. His duty was to make sure the teams got to their destination and home again safely. And, make sure they behaved. And behaved they did when teacher Bill was around. As a teacher he had always made sure to take care of his students and he certainly continued that love for the soccer players in his care. A player was removed from the plane one year because he was sick. Bill, knowing his responsibilities as the representative, departed the plane with the players as the rest of the team, and all the luggage, left for home. Three days later, after trips to the store for clothes and a few visits to the hospital, Bill and the player made it home safe and sound. That is Bill, making sure the job not only gets done but it gets done well.
Not busy enough, those years he did not travel as a Provincial Representative on behalf of PEI Soccer, he became the chair of the host committee to host the national club championships on PEI. Not just once, twice but four times in 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2019. He led a group of dedicated volunteers to host four remarkable and successful national championships that Canada Soccer could be proud of and uses as an example for future hosts.
When Bill was not working in an official capacity he could be found, in his chair, in the corner of the field behind the corner flag watching his children play or coach or his grandkids playing the beautiful game.

Fred Foster
In 1972, Fred was transferred to Ottawa as a member of the RCMP but found his way back to PEI in 1987 and his son started playing soccer with what was then called the Waterview Soccer club - now the Statford Soccer club.
He took on the role of coach of his son’s Atom hockey team and the under 12 soccer team and has not stopped since.
Between 1991-2018 Fred was either head coach, assistant coach or manager with 20 youth clubs and /or premier teams, 4 provincial all-star teams, 4 Junior High school teams, 3 local senior men’s teams, 1 Challenge Cup Senior men’s team and 9 years as Manager of the UPEI Men’s soccer teams.
Add to that, he acted as a sport’s writer for the Guardian, covering the UPEI Men’s soccer.
As a coach, Fred had many notable accomplishments over the years.
Representing PEI in the Under 15 Nationals 1995 - PEI
Representing PEI in the Under 17 Nationals 1997 - BC
Representing PEI in the Under 17 Nationals 1998 - ON
Teams had to win the Maritime Championship title to earn your way to Nationals.
Fred Foster and Bruce Norton also took a senior men’s team to Newfoundland and Labrador in 2002. Strangely, even though this team was undefeated at nationals, they ended up placing 5th.
When Fred retired in 2001, he took on the role of Executive Director of PEI Soccer. In 2006 he became Vice President of the Association and served in this capacity until 2016.
From 2006 - 2015, Fred also served nationally on the Canadian Soccer Associations Competitions Committee - governing and organizing national and regional championships.
